Half Marathon and 5K

Race at a Glance
The Half Marathon begins at historic Cabrillo National Monument,
with its majestic view of both San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, follows scenic San
Diego Bay and Harbor Island along the Embarcadero to The Star of India, winds through
downtown San Diego, and ends in beautiful Balboa Park. Starts at 7:00am.
5K Run/Walk - Fast loop course run completely within Balboa Park.
Starts at 6:45 a.m.
All participants (HM & 5K) will receive a special technical fabric t-shirt
Each mile plus 10, 15, and 20KM points are marked. Times displayed at each mile
Aid stations at 7 locations plus Start & Finish.
Two-day AFC Fitness Expo
at Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina
1380 Harbor Island Drive
(Fri 14 Aug-noon to 7pm &
Sat 15 Aug-10am to 5pm )
for bib number, Timing RFID chip, & T-shirt pickup.
Photo ID required for bib number pickup.
There will be NO Half Marathon Registration
at the Expo. NO day of race registration, bib number or Chronotrack RFID tag (timing chip) pickup for Half Marathon.
T-shirts are available for pickup after the race in Balboa Park.
Limit of 7,750 (half marathon) and 1,500 (5K)

NOTICE OF RESTRICTIONS:
A time limit of 3 hours (13 min. 45 sec/mile) for half marathon will be strictly enforced. T
he course will close according to the 3 hour pace (i.e. runners must be off Harbor Island (8.3 miles)
by 1 hour 54 minutes. The Finish Line will close at 3 hours - Finisher medals will be presented only
to half marathoners finishing under the 3-hour time limit. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE HALF MARATHON IF
YOU CAN NOT MEET THE TIME RESTRICTION.
The time limit to complete 5K is 1 Hour.
Absolutely NO baby joggers, strollers, bicycles, rollerskates, rollerblades, skateboards or other
wheeled vehicles will be allowed on the course. NO dogs.
For your safety and the safety of your fellow participants, you are encouraged NOT to use iPods,
MP3 players, or similar devices during the race. However, if you chose to use such a device, it is
recommended that you keep the volume at a level at which you are aware of your environment and any
emergency situations which may arise.
Next Year's Race:The 32nd Annual AFC Half Marathon will be held Sunday, August 16, 2009.
